HOME-BUILT MONOPLANE. FLIGHTS AT WHAKATANE. PERFECT LANDINGS EFFECTED. (By Telegrraph.—Press Association.) WHAKATANE, Thursday. Successful flights were made yesterday by the youth John Allison in the monoplane built by him. He made four flights and reached an altitude of 2000 feet. He flew in all about 60 miles, and effected perfect landings, the machine behaving well throughout. It is claimed to be the first successful flight in a New Zealand-built plane. THE HAWKE’S BAY PAGEANT.. 17 MACHINES TO PARTICIPATE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HASTINGS, Thursday. The following pilots will take part in the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Aero Clubs’ pageant at Hastings on Saturday: Miss Archa Clifford (Christchurch), Miss IL Bennett (Blenheim), lan Horton, Douglas Mill, C. M. Firth, Captains J. D- Hewetl, Saunders, Scabrook, and Bloomfield, Lieutenant Allan (ail from Auckland), Hamish Armstrong (Akito), Captain Warnock (New Plymouth), F. R. Dix (Blenheim), R. S. Taylor, Captains J. C. Mercer, Buckley, and Burrell (from Christchurch), Captain Steadman (Wellington), and Captain White and Flying Officer Olsen (Hawke’s Bay). Seventeen machines are definitely arriving, with a possibility of two more.
