SUDDENLY EXPIRED.

FRANKTON RESIDENT COLLAPSES. WHILE VISITING FRIENDS. While visiting friends last night Mrs Elva Hogan, aged 24 years, wife of Mr John Ilogan, of 22 Massey Street, Frankton, suddenly expired. Mrs Hogan was paying a friendly call on Mrs Ernest Worth, who resides in Frankton. She and Mrs Worth were in the bathroom at the time, when the candle set fire to a curtain. Mrs Worth gave the alarm, and it was then found that Mrs Hogan had collapsed. A doctor was summoned and on arrival pronounced life to be extinct. Inquest Opened. An inquest was opened before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., this morning. William John Hogan, husband of deceased, line erector of the Railway Department at Frankton, stated that his wife was 24 years of age. They had been married three years, and tjiere were two children, one two years and the other three months. His wife had been in good health and since her marriage had not been attended by any doctor. She was, however, very nervous. Last night they visited friends by the name of Worth, in Ellis Street. Shortly before seven o’clock Mrs. Worth took one of her children into the bartiiroam, before putting him to bed. Something had gone wrong with Flic electric light and .Mrs. Worth had taken a candle into the bathroom. She had been there a. few minutes when she called Mrs. Hogan into the bathroom. A few seconds later he heard Mrs. Worth call out “the house is on fire.” Mr. Worth ran into the bathroom and then called in witness where he saw his wife apparently In a faint on the ground. Mrs. Worth undid her clothing and Mr. Worth took steps to try and resuscitate her while witness sent for a doctor. When the doctor arrived life was pronounced extinct. The inquest at this stage was adjourned.
