AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
KIWITAHI SPORTS. A SUCCESSFUL MEETING. The Kiwitahi Sports Committee held its second annual sports meeting in Mr L. H. Earner’s grounds, Kiwitahi, in glorious weather, with a large attendance. The manner in which the meeting has increased in favour and prosperity can be gauged by the large increase in the takings at the gates. Last year they amounted to £l9; this year £34 13s 6d was taken. The attendance during the afternoon must have been close on 1000, and all present were loud in their praise of the excellent programme provided and the splendid way in which every detail was carried out. The ladies of the district, as usual, played no small part in making the meeting a success by providing abundant refreshments. (In this event the judge was so pleased with the way in which little June Howie, aged 5 years, sat and handled her mount that he awarded her a special prize.) A well-attended dance in the Kiwitahi Hall in the evening brought a very enjoyable day to a close.
