Straightening of Road. A deputation consisting of Messrs P. Hawke, W. Maud, 11. C. Pond, J. Harris and 11. Mann, from the Ilinuera Ratepayers” Association, waited on the chairman and engineer of the Matamata County Council to petition for the straightening of the road which passes Hu; bowling green, near the railway station, into Ilinuera. if this were done the extra available area would provide a parking ground for cars on the one side and a playing field for children on the railway plantation side. Presentations. On Saturday afternoon, prior to tier marriage, Miss Hazel Green, a popular member of the Ilinuera Tennis Club and top lady player, was presented by the club with a silver cake basket.

Mr S. Collins, chairman of the tennis committee, made the presentation, in the unavoidable absence of the president (Mr T. Gorry). Mr W. Home responded on behalf of Miss Green. A dainty afternoon tea was afterwards partaken of. Before Mr John Beeby’s departure for England a number of his friends, with Mr Jack Bain as chairman, met at the residence of Mr E. Worth to wish him bon voyage and to present him with a weii-flllcd wallet. Mr Beeby, after visiting his daughter in Christchurch, will leave by the Tamaroa from Wellington, and will visit, Cumberland, his home county, and other parts of the British Isles. Personal. Miss Kathleen Tisch and her uncle (Mr Harry Hopkins) have returned from their motor trip to Taranaki; Mr Hopkins, who is a prominent pedigree Jersey breeder, visited the show at New Plymouth, being specially inter-

ested in the newly-imported stock, but saw nothing there or at the sales that was an improvement on stock already in this district. Mrs Rowe and her brother (Mr D. Mclsaac) wall return on Sunday from their motor trip to their home town of Blenheim. Mrs Birtles, of Paparoa, is the guest of Mrs Richmond. Mrs L. S. Goodwin, of Turua, is visiting Mrs Schuler. Mr. Silveira has returned from the Waikato Hospital, where he had been indisposed.
