FUN 0’ THE FAIR.
FETE AT FERRY BANK. ADMISSION FREE TO ALL, GAIETY AMIDST BEAUTY. All the fun of the fair is to be had during the next two days at the fete organised by the Beautifying Society, at Ferry Bank../ Admission is free and the proceeds from the stalls, and half the proceeds from the side-shows go to the Society, which is making an effort to liquidate an account with the Borough Council that has been overdrawn to the amount of over £3OO. There was a good crowd at the fair yesterday afternoon, while last night the scene beneath the glare of coloured electric lights was a very gay one. There are more side-shows than have been present at any previous fair at Hamilton, and when the amusements were in full swing and the crowd at its densest, the grounds wore a very animated appearance. A large number of the younger people joined in dancing to music generously furnished by the Reo Orchestra, while others enjoyed items rendered by the Municipal Band. During the evening a dispaly of life-saving was given by members of the Fire Brigade. Assisting at tho Stalls. Many ladies are rendering voluntary service in connection with the fair, and to them the thanks of the community are due, for they are giving their measure of assistance to a work that is of benefit to the town as a whole and a joy to visitors. Amongst the ladies might be mentioned the following assisting at the various stalls: — Cake. —Mesdames Baker, Griffiths, Russell, Cole and Miss Ward. Books.—Mesdames Gaze, Prime, Mason and Miss Prentice. Soft Drinks.—Mesdames L. Rhodes, Seccomtoc and Edgecumbe. Sweets. —Mesdames Douglas, G. Reid, Fergusson, Wilson. Misses A. Moore and Eggleston. Eastern Bazaar. —Mesdames Curling, Henry, Kirkmam, and Miss Kirkman. Grocery.—Mesdames Powell, L. H. Monteith, Evans and Fowler. Flowers. —Mesdames Cranweil, G. Smith, Simmonds. Produce. —Mesdames Andrews and Anchor. Artificial Folwers. —Airs Bradley. Drapery.—Mrs Porter. Balloons. —Mrs N. Ross, Misses I. Brookes and Z. Mason. Ice Cream. —Mesdames Budd, Reynolds, C. Matthews, Misses E. and R. Bowler and R. Gilmer. Afternoon Tea.—Mrs R: English, E. Reeves, A. W. Green, Pile, Cook, Paterson, England, Alexander, Wallace, N. Holden and Denz. Great bargains are to be had at the various stalls, which are well-laden with all manner of articles. The fair is in a beautiful setting of sward and flower-beds, and alongside the swiftly-flowing stream. Beneath the glare of the strings of coloured lights, 0 at night time the scene is fairy-like. To-morrow there will be a great strength testing competition in a tug-o’-war between teams representing the Borough Council. Innes’ Brewery, Post and Telegraphs, Government Farm, Ellis . and Burnands, Central Power Board and the Carriers’ Association. There, will also be a display of bridge building by the Boy Scouts, and gipsy maypole dancing by girls trained bv Mrs 11. Piper. The Caledonian Pipe Band will be in attendance tomorrow night, and the Philharmonis Choir will sing ancl lead community choruses. _______
