LOCAL BOY’S SUCCESS. OTAGO HURDLES CHAMPION. Mr Eric N. Smith, son of Mr and Mrs J. D. Smith, River Road, Hamilton, who is a medical student at Hie Otago University, has gained the otago Championship for the 1 20yds hurdles. His time was J(> i-.isec. against a howling wind. Erie Smith is an ex-pupil of the Hamilton High School, where in 1925 he won the Senior Athletic Championship and ttie Senior Swimming Championship, many of his swimming records being still unbroken. He represented the school in the first fifteen for two years, and was an outstanding player. He is considered the best back High School has ever trained. He gained a place in the University football team, and was on Hie road to becoming one of the best players in the Dominion, when he was unfortunate enough to injure his shoulder.
