CAMBRIDGE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The above Council met nn Tuesday evening at 7 P.m. Present: His Worship tho Mayor (Mr Bond), and Crs, Hally, Pierce, Priestlev, Kirkwond. Kineaid, and Bach, New Membku.—MrG. W. Arnold having made the usual declaration, took his seat at the Council table. Reduction ok Rents,—Mr Thomas Freeman, of Lichfield, wrote under d4e of 10th December la*t:-"I beg respectfully to ask yon to kindly grant me a reduction of rent of the ten acres leased to me, being Nos. 180 to 195 of the Borough of Cambridge, The rent at present is £1 per acre, and I would ask that it be reduced to 10> per acre, which is about the aveiago of adjoining sections let by the Council. Trusting that ynn will give my request your favourable consideration,—l am, etc." -The Mayor said that he was in favour of reducing the rent if the adjoining allotments wero lot for a less amount,—Tho Clerk turned uo the accounts of the lessees who had adjoining allotments, and they varied from 5s Od to 15s 3d per acre per annum.—After some discussion, it was moved by Cr. Kirkwond, seconded hy Cr. Financial" Statkmbst.- Overdraft at 10th' December, £3lB 19s Gd; accounts paid during month, £lB 7- 7d; amount lodged during month £Bo 10s (id; accounts to pass £?5 2s (Id; overdraft whon accounts are paid, £276 IDs 4d. r MaINTKNANCK Of 1118 Waikato Bridge. -A bill was received from tho Waipa County Council for tho maintenance of the bridge over tho Waikato river at Cambridge, from January 4th, ISSS to September lltli, 1891. The'total amount of it was K157 3d fld, but the bor.nigh being only liable for a pro rata share according to rateable value, it was asked to contribute £22 135,-The Legal and Finance Committee recommended that the Council pay £ls Us Id, that being the amount due as from Uth August, 1881). when tho Borough was lirst constituted, the Waikato County Council being liable previous to that date. The report was unanimously adopted. Moitß Rkductioxs Oh' RKST.-At a previous meeting of the Council Mr S. Wilson had applied for a reduction of rent of the allotments 600 a, and 601 a from £S 10sto £2, and a committee, consisting of the Mayor, Cr-. Kirkwood and Hally was appointed to inspect and report upon the same. Tho committee reported as followsln compliance with the resolution passed at the December meeting of the Council, the committee won t over .the allotments referred to, and they have to report that IiOU is covered with gnrse, and is valueless, but IiOOA, containing h. lr. 3Gp., is nf some value, there being a first-class orchard in full bearing, ami good' feed on the allotment. The comuiittoe consider that£s per annum would be a fair rental for the two sections, and recommend the Council to reduce the rental from £Blos to £s."—On the motion of Cr, Priestly, seconded by Cr. Kimiuid, the report of the commitee wasapproved and adopted.-The reduction will be made by special resolution, as in the former case, Mn T. H, Browsb's Rest.-On the motion of Cr. Kirkwond, seconded by Cr. Pierce, it was resolved that if Mr T. H. Browne's rent be not paid by noon of the Kith inst., tho Town Cleik acquaint the Finance Committee, and that the committee be empowered to act. Mkmbmis of Committers.-Cr. Kmcaid was transferred from the Works to the Legal and Finance Committee, and Cr. Arnold fills his (Cr, Kincaid's) place on the '"thr" Dor, Tax.—Cr, Priestly said tho do? registrar should supply the Council with a list of tho owners of dogs, so that the Council could tick off, from month to month, those who paid the fees, At pre* Pent tho matter was in a most unsatisfactory state; tho Council received certain moneys, but did not know who paid them, or if all the dogs were registered.—The Town Clerk said ho had spoken to Constable Krennan about the mutter, and lie (the constable) said tho only list he could make was a copy of the previous years register, and that would not be much guido, as the owner's continually changed, and lie only found out the alterations when he was travelling through the borough,—Cr Kirkwnnil siid any list tlioy might make would not get another fee, for Constable Brennan took good care that all the dogs were paid for.-Cr. Priestly then moved : " Thai; the Town Clerk prepare a list of the payers of dog tix last ye'r, and submit tbo same tu Constable Brennan for revision-Seconded by the Mayor and carried unanimously. Fuh/.k, —The Ohairtnin of the Works Committee wasauthorised to get tho streets cleared of furze by the surfaceman, where ha knew it had not encroached from neighbouring properties, _ Ticks.—On the application of Cr. Bach, Mr Howe was authorised to have the tree in front of his shop lopped, the work to be done to the satisfaction of the chairman of the Works Committee. This concluded tho business,
