(By Lb Noun). The above races, which take place in Mr Ferguson's padlock at What.awhata on Monday next (New Year's Day), promise to afford a capital afternoon's sport, judging by the good entries received for the various events. The course has been recently ploughed and harrowed, and should be in good trim for racing on by Monday. A beautiful native bush is in close proximity to the course, and will bo found most suitable for picnic parses, et;. As this is the only attraction in Waikalo on that day, a large crowd will no doubt be present to enjoy themselves. The following are my selections : — Hurdles—Taffy. Maiden Plate—Locket. Whatawhata Handicap—Fiver. Galloway Rack—Hilda. Settlers' Rack—List Chance. Ladies' Bracelet—lnaare.
