SPORTS AT WAOTU.
On Monday last a capital day's sports were held in Mr Burnett's paddock at the Waotu, and considering the shortness of the notice the attendance of the public was large, somewhere about two hundred spectators being on the ground. .Everything went off without a hitch owing to the good management of Messrs Birnett and Osborne, At the conclusion of the sports a very kuvge number of the visitors were hospitably entertained by Mr and Mrs Barnett. The following is a list of the principal events : — Waotu Cup, 220 yds,, 1.-t prize, i"J.~ I'eremona. Ist; Thompson, 2ml. One Hundred Yards. Prize, £' I.— Terei, Ist Two Hundred and Fohtt Yards, over *ix hurdlPß, 3ffc. 'Sin. First, prixe. ,tl ; second, 10s. — ft. Barrett, Ist. (age, 141. Putting Stone, ItJlbs. Prizo, EL—W. Jones (30ft.), Ist, Hop, Step and Jump. Pti/.e, 10s.— Terei, (42ft.), Ist. High Jusii', for horses. Prize, W.— Waotu, admirably ridden by Mr Chas, Hitchman, won, clearing fift. -tin., owned by Mr Win. .Tones. High Jump, for men. First prize, 10s; ccond, 5?.--'Wiiia, Ist.; R, Barrett, 2nd.
