Our Hiintly Correspondent writes :—I regret to hnvu tu record a case nf drowning which occnrred at Hiintly West on Wednesday, the 9th, the victim being a sturdy lad named George Parked, aged 10, the son of Mr Joseph Parke*, a carpenter, in the employ of the W.C, and S. Company. The family reside close to Like Wain, and it seems that the hoy George, accompanied by a younger brother, were on the lake in a canoe on their way to gut firewood, when, the water being a bit lumpy George must have made a tal.se stroke with his paddle or lost his balance by some means and fell overboard. 1 [is little brother, who was in the bow of the canoe, says he say his brother disappearing in the water, and waited thinking he would re-appear, but as he did not and the canoe beginning to drift, he cried out and a sister hearing him ran tu where the canoe was drifting ashore and waded out ti him. When asked as to where his brother waß, he could only say that he was in the lake. Search was immediately made for the body, hut, so far, without success. Muoh sympathy is felt for the parents in being bereaved of such a bright promising boy. Dragging has been carried out all about spot where deceased is supposed to have been drowned but up to yesterday afternoon without recovering the body.
