TAUWHARE SUNDAY SCHOOL SOIREE.
Thb soiree in connection with the above Sunday-school was hold in the public schoolroom on Friday last, and was one of the best that has ever been held in tho district. The attendance, was large, many journeying from Hamilton and Cambridge to see what our little township could do in the way of providing an evening's entertainment, and some of the visitors also assisted in the performance. After ample justice had been done to the lea, etc., the following lengthy programme was very successfully gone through, Mr F. J. Brooks presidiug : — Part I : Overture on harmonium, Miss Hansfor.i; tableau, "Darby and Joan;" recitation, "The Jackdaw of Rhaima," Miss J. Walwoith; tableau, " Little Jack Horner;" duet, ''Tired,''' Misses Archer and Evans : tableau, "The Flower of the Family;" flute solo, "The Last Rose of Summer," Mr Hobbs; tableau, " Caught;" reading, "Mr Caudle becoinos a Mason," Miss R. HansfcirJ ; character song, "The Longshoreman," Mr CI .rk ; tableau, " Joan of Arc." Interval of ten minutes. Part II : Tableau, "Three Old Maids of Laa," Misses Bießs, Limb, and Rhodes; flute snlo, Mr Hobbs; cmnic song, "The Cork Leg," Mr Clark ; tableau, " The Sleeping Beauty ; " recitation, " M»loney's Fenian Cat," Mr Courtayne; nong, " Swauee River," Miss A. E. Evans; tableau, "Monkey Brand Soap is the Best;" song, "When The Winds Aie Blowing," Mr Clark; recitation, "The Sargent's Story," Mr Conrtayne ; reading, "A. Rackwoods Terror," the chairman; tableau, "Robinson Crusoe." The National Anthem was then sung and the audience dispersed after a vote of thanks had been passed to the Chairman aud three hearty cheers had been given for the ladies who had provided the entertainment. When all did so well it would be invidious to .specially mention any of the performers, but at the same time it would be very remiss on our part if we did not, on behalf of the audience, thank those ladies who went to an immense amount of trouble in staging the tableaux in such an excellent manner. We believe Mrs Browning and the Misses Biggs and Lamb managed theie, and they certainly put them upon the stage m a manner that is seldom excelled even in large towns. Mrs Browning's children, Emily and Frank, took leading characters and did itsplendidly. During the tableaux coloured lights wero displayed with great effect, and indeed the whole of the arrangements were Al. We trust the funds of the Sunday-school will be largely increased by tho entertaiuir.ent which w<l3 a most enjoyable one.
