RAGLAN.
Public Hall.—A public meeting was held I on Saturday afternoon, November 5th, at Barlows' Royal Hotel, to receive the report of the committee appointed at a previous meeting, and to consider the desirability of erecting a public hall, in Raglan, and if necessary to take steps for the formation of a company for that purpose. The meeting was well attended, Messrs Burton, T. B. Hill, A. Langley, McJannet, Picken, Conradi. Bay, Barlow, La Trobe and others being present. Mr Burton having being called to the chair, put before tho meeting the desirability of the erection of a public hall in Raglan, for various public purposes. From information which he had gathered, an estimate had been formed that the Limited Liability Company which it was proposed to be formed for the building of this hall would pay at least 5 per cent. A building 62 x 28ft., with two dressingrooms, 10 x 10, etc., would likely cost from £300 to £350. Several allotments had been offered, and he placed before the meeting an estimate of expenses that would be incurred legal and otherwise in the formation of the company. Mr T. B. Hill, in supporting the proposal trusted the public at large would take an active interest in it. He said he would have great pleasure in giving an allotment of- about half-an acre for that purpose as it was very much required at the present time, and he believed in a Limited Liability Company being formed for that purpose. Mr A. Langley stated that he considered
the erection of this building was a necessity for the place, and trusted that it would be built in a good position, and in the centre of the business portion of the township, and if in the main street that a good building should be erected, costing say £400, with offices on both sides, one of which might be used for the purpose of a reading room and liorary, which was much required here. He did not think there would be any difficulty in raising the capital. It was proposed by Mr Langley. and seconded by Mr T B. Hill, that a limited liability company be formed with a capital of £400, re-
presenting 400 shares at £1 each, 2s G'd per share on application, and 5s per share on allotment, the balance in 2s Cd calls as required.—Carried. Mr Hill proposed and Mr Berry seconded, that the following be provisional directors, Messrs Langley, Rendell, Burton, C. Mathews, A. Gilmour,
Bay and Hill.—Carried. Mr W. Conradi was appointed secretary. A vote of thanks
to the chairman concludnd the meeting, after which the provisional directors held their first meeting for the purpose of at once taking steps for the carrying out of the company.
