Thkrb is not the slightest doubt but that the Cambridge business people intsnd having a half-holiday each Wednesday, for the following is a copy of the paper that was signed at the meeting lately convened by Mr T. Wells, when " The Shop and Shop Assistants Act, 1S!)2 '' was discussed :
—" To facilitate the working of the above named Act and to give it a fair trial, wa the undersigned business people of the Hurough of Cambridge hereby promise and undertake to close our respective shops at 1 p.m. on every Wednesday in ench week for one vear from this date, viz., 24th October, 1592. We believe that the list conip-ises the whole of the shopkeepers of Cambridge, and to morrow they 111augerats the Wednesday half holiday. The Cambridge Band will play in the Domain Grounds in the afternoon to celebrate the occasion and to send the first holiday off with eclat. It has been arranged that the fruiterers and hairdressers shall open at C p.m., but all the other stores will remain closed. We caution the outside public against going or sending to Cimbridge for anything but letters on Wednesdays, for even the papers will not be given out till the following morning. If the holiday is co be a success the public must bear a little of the inconvenience.
