CAMBRIDGE WEST.
School Committee,— The Cambridge West School committee held a meeting last week, at which there were present -. Messrs E J. Allen (chairman), Geo. Bailev, W. Tucker, A. H. Hill, (J. Keeley and H. Fitzgerald. —Four candidates canv&ssed the members by circular, for their support in the forthcoming election to fill tho vacancy on the Board of Education caused by the retirement of Mr Kelly. Mr Henry Wilding appeared most favoured, but nothing was finally settled, The committee do not wish to elect a member who will charge exorbitant travelling expenses, but at the same tune they want a representative who will see that the country schools get fair play in the matter of teachers' salareis.— The head teacher's report stated that the temporary assistant was giving every satisfaction. The attendance last quarter averaged a little over 09.—1t was resolved to call for tenders for cleaning the school tanks and spouting, clearing the grounds of furze and putting a few loads of gravel on the paths.--The Secretary reported that the late school concert realised £G 3s, so there will be about £o remaining after all expenses are defrayed.—Accounts amounting to £G lUs Od were passed, and the meeting then closed.
