TE AWAMUTU.

Medical.—All residents in this wide district will bo pleased to learn that we are likely to have a resident medical man very shortly. It is now nearly six months since Dr. tiowley left the district, and the absence of prompt medical assistance in cases of accident and illness has been a great misfortune. Dr. Bakewell, who has been practicing in Auckland for some years past, is coining here next Saturday, intending to give the district a trial. I am sure he will find it worth his while to settle here, as the practice is a good one, although the district is somewhat scattered. Ohukch.—The Rev. J. H. Maynard, who created such a favourable impression on his last visit here, will preach again in S. John's Church on Sunday week, the 2Sth inst., in the morning. As he is at present in want of a Church, an effort is being made by some of our prominent churchmen to secure him as resident clergyman for the distrijt. It is a positive scandal that a fairly-well-to-do district like this has had no Anglican minister of its own for over two years. The vestry of R. John's aiv arranging a scheme by which >',t,c!» of thn neighbouring Churches in the di.-trict will guarantee a certain quota per annum, according to their size, and with this assistance they hope to got over their old stumbling block —the raising of the stipend. There should be no difficulty about this, as it is moderate enough.
