COLONIAL SECURITIES.
(by KLEcnno telegraph.—copyright.) London, August 5. TitE Times considers that in view of the trouble that has overtaken Australia. Sir George Dibcs cannot be surprised at his failure to pmvniade the Government to allow the investment of trust funds in colonial securities. When Australia deals with railways, finance, commercial and labour problems in a more statesmanlike and straightforward way it will be easy to persuade the British investor that the colonies are able to pay thair debts. The financial measures resorted to by Victoria and Tasmania resemble the shifts which bankrupt Portugal is driven to resort to, but are hardly creditable to a great colony.
