HOME RULE.
(by electric telegraph.—copyright). London, August o. Mb Justin McCarthy has been elected sessional Chairman of the Nationalist party, assisted by a council consisting of Messrs Blaku, Davitt, Tim Healy, Sexton, O'Brien. Dillon, Arthur O'Connor, and T. P. O'Connor. Speaking at the Eighty Club, Mr Blake advocated a wide measure of Home Bvile, but admitted that the Imperial Parliament should be able to suspend the Irish constitution. He thought it would be unwise to hamper Mr Gladstone's freedom of action. When Home Rule was once fairly launched, legislation on labour, social and electoral questions should follow. He contended that the experience of Canada showed thut rivalry of creeds had proved a safeguard to autonomy. August 7. It is stated lhat it was Mr Gladstone wishing Mr Blake's assistance in drawing up the details . for Home llule invited him to enter Parliament and endeavoured to rally the Irish party to a common Standard.
