NATIVE AFFRAYS.
(by electric telegbapk.—copyright.) Sydney, August 8. Intelligence from tho Caroline Islands states that the Spanish troops have suffered heavy reverses at the hands of the natives. An attempt to land parties from four gun boats at Ponope was unsuccessful tho movement being attended with great loss of life. It is stated that the missionaries are largely to blame for the. disaffection with the natives. Perth. August 8. A desperate encounter has taken place between tho natives and police while a party of the latter wore endeavouring to capture the murderers of Allan and Henry, which took place in June last. Tho ringleader and many other natives were shot, one prisoner was captured and one policeman was speared.
