THE NEW ZEALAND DRUG COMPANY'S MANURE.
The art of catching the public eye could i not have been displayed in a more pleasing j manner than in the tasty get-up of Messrs « Kempthorne, Prwsser, and Company * Annual Manure Catalogue for season 1892-03, , of which we have been favoured with a i copy. This, as well as having a very ; attractive and at the same time businesslike appearauce, should prove from the information contained in it of teal worth to a!l those engaged in agricultural aud other kindred pursuits. It will be noted from the litho views on the cover that the drug company have, in addition t > their well known manure nuiuutactory at Westfield. similar large works in the bouth Island near Dunedin, and are so enabled to cater for the requirements ofr fanners etc, from one end of New Zealand to the oilier. On opening up the catalogue the most casual observer caunot hrlp being ?truck with the order and precision with which the reading aud othor matter has been arranged, thus auguring well for the carrying out with the same accuracy the many details and difficult points which we have no doubt must arise in the work of conducting a large manufacturing concern. First, there is a short essay, "The Balance ot Fertility,' and from it our farmers will be able to gather some facts worth knowing; then comes a table of last season's results in the field and these, although it is generally acknowledged that last season was not a good oue, appear to bo really excellent. Then to each kind of manure made is demoted a page by ifself— giving price per ton and what the manure is best suited for. There are also numerous testimonials, all it will be noted are of quite recent date, and all without exceptum expressing satisfaction as to results obtained, with in many cases Promise of order for the coming season. This should be gratifying and encouraging to manufacturer and client alike. On looking down the list of names attached to testimonials we cannot help but n')te how well these manures have made their mark, and al* though Auckland caunot be described as the birth-place of chemical fertilisers, yet we may safely say that in haviiiK an establishment in our midst like the Westhfild Chemical Works we are in the van in the manufacture of high-class manures m the Southern hemisphere. To give merit i where it is due. it is only fair for us to say i that tho printing aud lithogr.iphio work lu • this catalogue was turned out of the bW i Office, Auckland, and reflects great credit ; on both branches of that establishment.
