HARAPEPE.

The Weather.—There is but little news to write about from this quiet place. The moat exciting event that has happened for some time has been the heavy floods in the Waipa, a great deal of our lowlyiDg land being some feet under water for days, and the same in the adjourning district of Karamu, but I have not heard of any serious damage being done. Some of the river-side settlers have lost potatoes that were pitted too close to the river, and others had to remove theirs to higher ground. The steamer's store at Te Rore was about half submerged, and several tons of potatoes in it wero damaged. Since the rains we have had almost a gale blow from tlis south, b&ing very cold for several days, and now we are having sharp frostp. School Matters.—One pleasant little piece of news I have to record is that a Harapepe schpol boy (a son of Mr J H. Thompson, po*master) has headed the list of sureessful candidates at the late examination for pupil tcachers of the Board of Education. Considering that boya from all the best schools in Auckland competed, this is not bad for an out-of-the-way country district like Harapepe, and speaks well for the country school teachers.—The Board of Education act in a very careless way with their property. Our school is now shut up," and it wants roofing badly. The Board has been made aware of the fact, but refuse to do the repairs, and if not soon attended to the building will go to ruiu, and no one can say that it may not soon be wanted again, as we have a great deal of fairly good land in this district unoccupied, and additional settlers in the ordinary course of events are sure to turn U P- '
