TE AWAMUTU.
Codun Moth Bill.—There seems to be strong opposition iD this district to this proposed ne.w piece of legislation. Most practical farmers and orchardists here look upon it as fresh taxation and all the attendant nuisances of Boards, ratenotices, inspectors, and all the details,of red-tapeism—to say nothing of a summons occasionally—and all at the same time of very doubtful benefit to any one, bar the inspectors. At their last monthly meeting, some members of the Rangiaohia Road Board brought the matter up, and after considerable condemnatory discussion, Mr Hutchinson proposed, and Mr Teasdale seconded, this resolution :— " That this Board is of opinion that no legislation is necessary in this matter as no good would result." The members seemed to think that it was time enough to bring in a Bill compelling people to use certain specific lotions and bandages on tbeir trees when it could be shown that these were certain cures for the evil, but so far, in their experience, the moth had had a long way the beat of it. Eably Spring.—ln one of the trees in the creamery paddock a plucky pair of thrushes, notwithstanding the cold and rain have built a nest, and there are now three eggs in it. The gentleman who discovered the nest, and has been carefully ■watching it ever since, assures mo that only once in his long experience in the colonies and elsewhere has he ever seen thrushes buikl ao early before, and that ■was in the Old Country—(lreland) — where he saw a nest in the month of January. OnrrrHKY.— Mr Thos. Finch, who has been ailing for some time past, died at 2 o'clock last Tuesday afternoon. He had kept the hotel nt Alexandra for many years, and was very much respected. He is one of the oldest Masons in the Waikato, and the Alexandra Lodge are arranging for a Masonic funeral whicli fakee place to-day.
