CATHOLIC SOCIAL AT CAM BRIDGE.
The first of a series of entertainments in aid of the Catholic Church was held on Friday last, in a building in Chapel-street that was formerly a Wesleyan Church, but is now known as " McCrea's Hall." For years this building has been but little used, and the appearance of it, when viewed frcm the street, is certainly not all that could be desired, and we have heard disparaging remarks made as to its interior ; but the latter has undergone considerable alteration at the hands of Mr A. Wilkinson, and for the nonce it has been transformed into quite a bijou theatre. The work has been carried out solely by himself —stage, scenes, curtains, &c—and it certainly reflects great credit upon him. On Friday evening the hall was filled, and everyone was thoroughly satisfied with the fare provided. The first item of the pro gramme was a piano solo, " Fantasia on Irish Airs," by Mrs Lowe; then Miss W. Walker sang "Mona," for which she was deservedly encored. Miss Annie Mnran sang " Marguirite," after which her sister, Miss Mary Mnran, played a piano solo most brilliantly. Mr and Mrs Wilkinson gave the comic duet " Money Matters in a manner that fairly brought down the house, and they had to repeat it. Miss Annie Mnran then brought the musical portion of the entertainment to a close by singine "Barney O'Hea." After an interval, during which refreshments, kindly provided by Mesdames H. Kerr and McVeigh, were partaken of, the farce entitled " Peace and Qiiet " was rendered in an excellent manner. The dramatis persona were as follows :—Mrs Fluttersome, Mrs Madigan ; Nblli", Miss MjKernnn ; Clara Fluttersorne, Miss McVeigh ; TwittPrlevFluttersome, Mr A. Wilkinson ; Mr Closefist, Mr H. Stewart; Smashington Goit. Mr F. J. Saunders. At the conclusion the hall was cleared for dancing, which was kept up with spirit till about midnight, excellent music being provided by the Misses Moran and Walker. The former also played the accompaniments to songs, &c, during the evening.
