THE ELGINSHIRE.
(BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION). Timartj, Last Night. • Two tups pulled the Elginshire for two hours on the night tide, but made no impression. The lines were again carried away by the chafe of the ship, but not till the tide had gone down. This morning four surf boats were taken down to fetch up the wool. It will take two days. The weather is fine, and there is a moderate swell. The captain still holds the vessel for the owners. The meat on board the Elginshire is insured for £18,000 in London. Later. The work of talcing the cargo out of the Elginshire by means of surf boats is still proceeding. Mr Mills, the stevedore, who has returned from the scene of the disaster, considers that it is hopeless to expect to get the vessel off. If the weather keeps fine everything will he got out of her. An attempt to pump the water off between the double bottom showed the outer akin to be greatly damaged, and the water in the inner of the two chambers shows that the rocks are through the inner skin as well. Mr Mills sounded all round the vessel, and found rocks on all sides. He has had great experience during wrecks, and declares the vessel will never be got off. She is very strong, and may hold together for a long time. A survey will probably be made tomorrow. Another pull will be tried about midnight.
