THE RIVAL ROUTES.
(BY TELEGRAPH,—OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Auckland, Last Night. By the Waikato train this morning Mr Munro Wilson, C.E., who has recently travelled over the Stratford railway route on behalf of the Northern Railway League, left for Te Kuiti, en route to Waimarino, on the Central railway route, in order to inspect tho Waimarino Block and report on the nature of that tract of territory to the League. Mr F. Lawry, M.H.R., accompanied him. The Waimarino Block, which is situated between the Wanganui River and Taupo, comprises an area estimated at about 385,000 acres. The Central railway route would, if constructed, tap this large block, but doubts are entertained if more than a very small percentage of the land is worth opening. However, the party, who expect to return in about ten or twelve days, are of opinion that they will after the present inspection is completed, be in a position to produce a complete chain of evidence, re the rival routes.
