SLY GROG SELLING.
The charges against Edward Peny and Mrs Henry Tanner for sly grog selling at Te Kuiti were heard at Te Awamutu yesterday, before Captain Jackson, R. JI. It will be remembered as giyen in our previous reference tu this matter, that Inspector Emerson, accompanied by three constables arrived at Te Kuiti about ten o'clock at night, and on proceeding to these establishment* found liquor being openly supplied. In the after search, a considerable quantity of beer and spirits wis also found concealed in the neighbourhood, bearing tha name of the above parties. Mr Hay, instructed by Inspoctor Emerson, appeared for the prosecution, and Mr Cotter, of Aucklaud, for Mr Perry, Mrs Tanner being undefended. The latter pleaded duily, and a fine of £20 and costs was inflicted. Mr Cotter pleaded not guilty for tho other defendant, but the Bench held the charge proved, and inflicted n tine of £40 and costs. .
