REASSURING STATEMENTS.

DuNEniN, Tuesday. In his speech at Luvruticß. the Hm, J. McKenzie dealt principally with tha hind policy. He said there was no intention t> rob settlers of their holding- , , nor a desire to interfere anywhere with those in possession of Crown lands. Hβ had no douht tint large nreao of land had come into the possession of people in a manner that would not bear investigation if gone into. But these areas had been acquired in some shape or form under the laws in existence, and iiß would be the fast man in the colony to repudiate any bargain made under the law. They had a right, however, to say how the lands still left should be disposed of. Land laws in the past had not been satisfactory, in proof of which he mentioned that fortyseven people were inpossession of 3,000,000 acres of the bast agricultural land in the colony. The Hon. R. J. Seddou, in the course of his speech, said a3 regarded tho tn.xation proposals, they were sound and reasonable, and there must be fin dilv to them.
