For this event four horses entered, and a good race onsued, all the horses taking their jumps in first-class stylo. Janglor was made a hot favourite for this race, but old Muscatello proved by far the best horse, Wide-a-wake who was well np struck tho last hnrdlo heavily, and was pulled up do»d lame thus losing his chance, the result being: — Mr It. For this event there were nina entries, all of whom came to tho post. Septus was the people's favourite, level money only li"ing obtainable on his ability to win. llenwood on Alex made the pace a hot one, and a splendid race ensued, resulting in a win, onlv by a short half length, for Mr R. Henwood's Alex, 7st. 81b (Owner) 1 Mr Dixon's Detective. 7st 71b 2 The winner was loudly cheered. Dewdrop, Ingot, Wbitewings, Septus, Boy, Skylark, and Protest also ran. Alrxandha Cur Handicap, value £10. with a sweep of 5s to go to the second horse. Distance, two miles. There were only three entries for thin event, which was won with the greatest of ease by the outsider, as the race was considered a moral foi M'ltainn. Result: Mr W. Searuncke's Fiver, 7-'t 71b ... 1 Mr Parfttene's Mataina, Bst 21b 2 Mr Charlton's Tamaitiora, 9st 3 | Maiden' Hack Rack, value £4. Distanco, i one mile. For this event four horses started, and was won with ease, hands down, by . Mr Dixon's Detective 1 Mr Mason's Rahiri 2 Settlers' Race Handicap, of £7. £1 to go to second horse. To ba owned and ridden by settlers within a radius uf 10 miles. Distance, lj miles. Four horses only came to the post for this event, Skylark being scratched. A capital race ensued with a most exciting finish, half a length only separating the leading horses. The result was a most p.ipular one. Mr R. Kenwood's Alex, .Sst (Owner) ... 1 Mr Paratene's !)<t (Maori) ... 2 Mr Searancke's Fivjr, fist iMaf.vi) ... 3 The next event on the programme, the Maori liace, fell through, as none would enter against Kismet. TIIK CONSOLATTON E.U'H, r.f 3sovs., for all beaten horses. Distance, 1 mile. Four started and a splendid race resulted which caused lots of excitement:— Mr Weathering Fisherboy 1 Mr Searancke's Protest 2 Mr Finery's Skylark I! Tho rider of the winner was carried shoulder high to Mr Finch's refreshment booth amidst the cheers of all present, it being his f iurth winning mount at the meeting. A concert with a short dance m connection with the races took place in the Public H ill in the evening, when ali enjoyed themselves <vith a short dance afterwards. As Your Own was not present a detailed account of the affair is not obtainable.
