RAGLAN.

Auction Sale.—On Saturday, November 2lst, a sale of horses, drapery and other goods took place in Sutton's Auction Mart, Raglan, the various articles submitted for competition realising good prices, and a large quantity were disposed of. At the close of the sale, the office effects of the Raglan County Council were sold at a fair price.

Suil'l'l.vc Cattle.—Writing some time ago upon the advantage of shipping cattle, &c, from this port, where cattle and sheep can either be received or sent away from various- parts of tho harbour so easily, the best place perhaps is up at Waitetuna, on the Hod of Mr Johnstone, where steamers can lie in deep water almost close to the shore.

Stoke Cattle.—The great difference in the price of cattle should create a spirit of emulation amongst breeders of cattle in Waikato and Raglan in the future, seeing that there is such a demand in Taranaki for young stock. Last year yearling calves could only be sold at about 7s per head, and this year in consequence of the increased quantity of land under grass they have been fetching 275. The S.S. Terranora has been chartered to bring tip 1000 head from the south, and the S,S. Gairloch 1000 head of young stock from Onehunga. Why could not stock be sent from this port-the best available for Waikato, within easy driving distance, with good roads and easy of access, Since last year it is said there are at least GOO fresh settlers from Canterbury who have taken up land in the Taranaki district, hence in a great manner arises the demand for young cattlo.

Pedigree Stock.—lt is with pleasure I note that an elfort is being made by importing a pure Jersey bull to impr.ive the dairy stock in the district. Mr T. B. Hill, who some little time ago purchased a herd of half-bred Jerseys, Alderneys, and Ayroshire, is now getting from Taranaki from tho celebrated breeder of Jersey stock, W. K. Fluke, a pure Jersey bull of very high pedigree and which is expected by the next steamer. Several other settlers who own sections adjacent to Mr Hill in the now celebrated Chamberlain Block are joining with him in a true spirit of co-oporation in the purchase of this animal that they may by its purchase improve the character ot their herds.

Visiting Season.—Now that glorious summer is once more upon us it is pleasing to see amongst ns old friends from Waikato leaving the worry and care of business life for the refreshing breezes of the ocean deep. Amongst thoso who have alieady been over from Waikato are Messrs Knox and Turner from Hamilton, who drove over for a few days sojourn here.

Vessels.— The s.s. G-lenelg came in yesterday afternoon for Kawhin and the South and after discharging oats etc., left by the same tide for Onehunga. Outside the bar waiting for the morning's tide is the cutter Coralie,
