DEATH OF W. McPHERSON.
The unfortunate young man McPherson, who met with a severe accident at. Mangawlmra on Wednesday, as reported in our last issue, lingered through Wednesday night and Thursday, but died at about 10 o'clock on Thursday night. During the time that he was in the Hospital he never recovered consciousness, and Dr. Kenny was unable to ascertain the nature of the internal injuries, which he feared McPherson had received, and which no doubt were the cause of his death. Deceased, who was one of the original members of the Hamilton Light Infantry Volunteers, will be accorded a military funeral to-morrow afternoon. The remains will be interred in tho Hamilton West Cemetery, with those of his parents, who were amongst tho pioneer settlers of Hamilton. By a notice appearing in another column, the members of the corps are requested to parade at the drill-shed at 2 p.m. to-morrow, in full dress and with side arms. Captain Reid haß asked ns to remind the members of the Volunteer Bands to meet at the drill-shed this evening for practice. THE LAST FUKLOUOII. Drape the colours, muffle the drum, March with a slow and solemn tread ; While bearing to his silent home, Your poor young comrade—dead. Reverse your arms, your heads bow low, Thus softly walk behind the bier ; While peals the Dead March's solemn notes, Falls from your eye a tear. Stand round the grave, all hushed and still, At ease—and resting on your arms— And contemplate, in silent awe, This last of earthly harms. With cartridge load—Present and fire, Three volleys o'er your comrade low ; Absent for ever from your ranks, On endless last furlough. And while the echoes of tho shots Roll round the silent mountains high, Take of your comrade final leave, A tearful, long Goodbye. W. C Castleton. Hamilton, 4th December, 1801.
