SUCCESS OF "WAIKATO EXHIBITORS.
(BY TEr.EGRAriI -OWN CORRESPOXmtST.) Auckland, List Night. Thk Auckland Provincial and Agricultural Show opened at Kpsorn to-day. Thoy hud ruthtir a damper cast upon tho proceedings at an early stage. Owing to thn want of shelter provided various classes of exhibits were exposed to the weather which with an occasional shower and fr«sh breezfl blowing was not all that could have been desired, The attendance up to a late hour this afternoon was small being chiefly confined to exhibitors. There was no prize offered for local manufacturing industries and various firms were content to place their goods on show for exhibition only. The classes for *hich prize awards were made wore confined to horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, poultry, and dairy produce. The following wore among tho priaewinners '• —
HOUSES. Judges: Mossrs W. Crowther, J. S. Bnckland, and R. Bosanko. Considering the groat reputation Auckland has for breeding thoroughbred horses the number of horses entered in this class is very poor and disappointing, but there is a fine show in classes for carriage horses, roadsters, and draught stock. Out of four entries for the best blood entire Brigadier looked a kins amoug the lot. He showed the great substance of the Musket family and was in tip-top condition. Kabulous was also in splendid condition and is much improved in appearance. Leolinus was rough in his co»t but in healthy condition, Raglan looked in the pink of condition. Best entire, three years old and upwards.—L. D. Nathan's Fabnlous, Ist ;R. and R. Dudnr's Brigadier, 2nd. The others shown were Raglan and Leolinus.
Best colt, two years old, foaled since August Ist, 1889.—Mrs Linria's King Cannibal, Ist. This was thn only f.ntry. Best hack. mire, or eflldinsr, up to 14 stone. -J. H. Kfillv's Piayhoy, Ist : W. H. Martin's Laddie, 2nd ; K Maclean's Rufiben, 3rd. Best trottor, to be driven in harness,— Sullivan's Lord William, Ist ; Gore's Topsy, 2nd ; G. Kenny's Liddie, bred by Allrieht, Tamahore, 3rd. Best horse, maro or geldinsr, to ba driven in harness.—G. Kenny's Laddie, Ist. John Phillips', Allendale, took tho first prize for tho best entire horse and also the ohampionship. Best three-year-old colt or filly, bred by a farme.- whose land tli3 Hunt Club run over.— J. M. McLaughlin's Psyche, by Ingnmar, Ist. Champion prize for the best dry mare was awarded to John Phillip's Darling, CATTLE. The Shorthorn Jersey and Alderney clauses ara about equal in strength the latter being, pnrhaps, numnrically the utronger, while quality compensated in the former. Hereford* followed, but were not a strong class numerically, only one or two being Ghown in each class ; but some nice-looking and well-bred animals are shown. There are no entries for Devons, and only two in Ayrshires. In Island cattle, Aldernevs ore considered good. Fat cattle. Best pen of two fat oxen— Matamata Estate, Ist; James Hume. 2nd. ltest fat ox, any age—Matamata Estate, Ist and 2nd ; K. Bennett, 3rd ; R. Bennet, highly commended. Best fat cow, irrespective of breed—Gavin Wallace's Lizzie, Ist; Every McLean, 2nd ; A. S. Thompson, 3rd. B'jst fat heifer—Kvery McLean, 1. Every Maclean took all the prizes for Herefords.

Best pen of three ewes suckling lambs.— E. McLean, Ist and 2nd. Best pen of three owes under 18 months. —-E. McLean, Ist and 2nd. LINCOLN'S. Best rain over 18 months.— J. McNicol, Ohaupo, Ist; J. McNicol, Ohauno, 2nd; R. Hall, highly commended ; C. T. Barriball, commended. Best ram under 18 months.— Joseph linrugh, Ist; Joseph B-irueh, 2nd; C. T. Burriball, highly commended ; C. T. Barriball, commended. Champion prize. For the best longwool ram— J. McNicol.

Best pen of three ewes —E. McLean. Best Hampshire Ram—lt. Hall, who won the champion prize, and all other prizes in this class. Fat sheep: Best pen of fivo longwool wethers—G«orgo Selby, champion prizß, Ist: J. McNicol, 2nd ; J. Gordon and J, A. R'lnciman, 3rd.
Best pen of five wethers—G. H. Selby, Ist; J. McNicol, 2nd. Best pen of five wethers —E. McLean, 1; C. T. Barribald, 2nd. Best pen of five wethers, suitable for freezing—R. Hall, Ist and 2nd; Williamson Bros., 3id. The Champion Prize for tho exhibitor winning the most prizes for sheep was awarded to Every McLean. PIGS. Judges: Messrs (iooseimn, J. Bollard, and J. Kilgour. The .ihow of pig 3 was small, there boing little or no competition, There wore only singlo .entries for many classes, and not more than two entries, except for one class. daiuy pnonucE and sumihies.

The exhibit of dairy proJnce was very fine. The exhibits of butter were splendid, and bacon and hams were of first-class quality, and the exhibits of fancy bread, etc., cillod for general admiration.
