CAMBRIDGE TROUBLES.
TO Til','. EDITOR. Sill,—Tho iiilntjit.iiiN of Cambridge are certainly the most apathetic people in this province, or prob.iijly in tiie colony, or they would have created a hubbub long ago about tho prices they are charged for broad and coal. In every issue of y.mr paper Mr E. T. Davey announces tint h • is retailing bread at 31 porSlbbuf in Hamilton, while in Cambridge 4d is the iniiiimiiin charge for tho like amount. Again a little turn' since Mr John flidler advertised tint he was prepared to deliver, in any part of your borough, Tanpiri household c >al at 15s per ton, and vet in Cambridge tho price of Tanpiri coal is £.1 per ton at the yard, and then, of course, you have to pay extra for delivery. If it pays your tradespeople to sell at the above-mentioned prices, I fail to Bee why we in Cambridge should be charged 25 per cent more. Somebody is having a pretty good picking out of us, and it must be the retailers, for I don't think the millers or colliery proprietors would favour Hamilton tradesmen more than Cambridge. There was a talk a little time ago of another bakery being started here, but, alas! it did not come to anything, so we are left at the mercy of the old hands—and mighty independent they are ; in fact we dare not grumble or we should very likely be told to bake our own bread, which unfortunately I am not able to do. Now, will any of yout commercial men start a branch here? If so, I warrant they can do a trade in bread and coal—i.e., at Hamilton prices. We have also a very serious trouble of a professional nature, but I will refrain from commenting upon it, as an old and valued friend is coining to reside amongst us again—one who can always be found when he is wanted—and if his health will permit he will have plenty of work, for during his absence many of us have been in foar and trembling lost we should be seriously indisposed. 13y inserting the above you will oblige.—Yours, &c, A Sufferer,
