The hour for early morning mass at the Catholic Churches in Cambridge and Hamilton will in future bo 8 a.m., and not 8.30 as heretofore. The concert and dramatic entertainment takes place to-morrow evening at Alexandra, and not to-morrow week as notified in our last issue. We are in receipt of Mr Robert Blackie's New Zealand Sporting Guide. This publication contains a variety of information interesting to sporting men, and we commend it to their attention. The football match played at Wanganui yesterday between the local representatives and a representative team from Auckland, resulted in a hollow victory for the visitors by 22 points to nil. The members of the Cambridge branch of the Waikato Farmers' Club would do well to remember that the meetings are held on the Monday on or before the full moon, consequently next Monday will be tho day. The relatives of the late James McLeish, of Whatawhata, desire to express through our columns their gratitude for the kindness and attention shown to tho decoded. during his last illness, by the medical officer and nurses at thu Waikato District Hospital. If the variety of potatoes known :■ i late Rose continue to increase in size as much next season as they have done during the last, they will have to be sold by the yard. Mr G. J. Nnal, uf Cambridge, has .me that is over a foot lout;, aud is not a monstrosity at that.
Dr. Waddington passod through Hamilton yusterday on his way to Auckland, Although tho doctor has been a good deal pulled down by his recent illness, he is bright and cheerful, and expects, ill the curse of a week or so, to be back again ill his o'd quarters at Te Aroha. The concert and dramatic enter* t.'iinuient to be held at Alexandra to-inor-iiiw (Friday) evening promises to be a great success. The lady for whose benefit it is being got up is a most deserving recipient of the compliment. One of Auckland's best vocalists will assist, as well as the best local talent in Alexaudra and surrounding districts. Mr T. Harle Giles, who conducts ■ne of the most successful educational establishments in this part of tho colony, notifies in this issue that he has an opening in his establishment for a youth as junior clerk. This affords an oxcellent opportunity to a parent or guardian for securing a firstclass education for a son, or ward, as the case may be. We would remind residents of Cambridge West and district of th" lecture on " Self Calture" to be delivered this '■veiling by the Rev. C. Gailan l iu the Cambridge West church. In our local in last issue the words "it seems" wero printed instead of "as seen." Although a matter of no import that we can see, we have been requested to draw attention to the error. Everything continues to prosper with relation to the Cambridge horse show. Entries are rolling in rapidly (by-the-way to-morrow is tho last day, for receiving them), many of the exhibitors having entered for several classes. Men are engaged putting the paddock m proper order, and everything is being done to make the whole alf iir a gigantic success. The effect of many years of good farming are to be seen at the present time, on Mr John Bycroft'a farm in the Waipa district. The estate seems to be devoted chiefly to pastoral purposes, and tho bright green paddncks showing a good growth of grass aro a pleasuro to look at. A large flock of breeding sheep are kept, and the big well-grown lamb.i to bo soon on all aid™ havr> nvidontly birnn narly and well fed.
Tlio result of tho standard ex« animations .it tlm two Hamilton and t.ho Ivirikirima school* ulinuld prove vrry satisfactory tnth to parents as well aa to the toachers. At tho Hamilton East sohool 81 children were presented and 71 pasajd. At the Weat school 100 were presented ont of which 87 were successful, and at Kirikirkoa eleven children were examined all of whom passed. Tho children are now nnjiivte? a jiMichv fhclr h»n! worli

In the King Country they owe 12.000 .-.beep; ill the 10 ist Coast district IiO.OOO sheep. 1000 cattle, and 7500 nigs; in Napierdistiiet ND.OOOsheep. We also learn that they are growing crops of wheat, oats, and muz' 1 , and preparing for sale whale ..il frmn li-h captured on the coast. All this is highly satisfactory, and indicates that the political and moral regeneration of the Maoris will be largely assisted by teaching them to work. —Lyttolton Times. A meeting of the Hamilton Howling an 1 Quoiting Club was held last night in tin Waikato Hotel, when there was a good attendance. The Club has now a roll of over twenty members. Mi Taylor was elected president,. Mr Reid wai nominated as vice-presidont but declined, and Dr. Mnroh was clectod. Mes-rs .f. S. Edgocumbe, .r. M. Murray, R. F. Sandes, and T. The usual monthly meeting <)f the Hamilton Domain Board was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening, when there were prosent; Messrs Coates (chairman), Dey, Reid, Tippin, Slade, Jones, and I'arr.—Mr Coates reported that the dead trees on Sydney Square had been replaced, and accounts, amounting to £2 18s lid, in connection therewith were paused for payment.—A vote of thanks was passed t.o Mr George Mason for his generosity in giving trees for the park reserve.—The foreman of works was empowered to clear the fern in the park reserve, and to take means so stop the cattle from getting in. The provisions of the Local Authorities Accounts and Audit Bill were discussed by t.ho members of the Waipa County Council at the conclusion of the monthly meeting on Tuesday. The clerk was instructed to protest against, clausa 33 ho far as it is retrogressive, and recommend that in clause 17 the number of the copies of tho balance sheet required be inserted, as the clause as at present might tend to increase the the clerical work of the clerks without any particular gaiu, also that the words " always provided there were reasonable grounds for the proceedings," be added to clause 28. Messrs Booth, Macdonald & Co., of Christchurch, advertise that they will exhibit agricultural machinery in Cambridge on tho dates of the Horse Parade and salo. They havo a large consignment coming up, including all tho standard implements in use on a farm and several that are new to this district. Farmers visiting Cambridge on the above dates would do well to call aud inspect their display. The same firm advertise a trial of the " Carlyle" screw pulveriser. There is one of these machiues in daily use iu this district and we understand is giving very gratifying results. An accident happened at Oliaupo on Saturday morning, luckily unattended witli serious consequences. Sir W. Bowman of that township, who w,vs removing to Cambridge, had his furnituru aud effects loaded in a four horso waggon upon tho top of which his two children were seated. Mr Bowman was in the act of lifting his wife into tho waggon when one of tho loaders got tho winkers off, and taking fright the team bolted down ar. incline aud through a seven-wiro fence, overturning tho waggon, and throwing the children a considerable distance. Luckily they oscaped with nothing more than a severe shaking. Considerable datnaeo was howover done to the furniture, all but a violin, a chest of drawers and a table being smashed into matchwood,
