DISTRICT OF WAIKATO HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

Thk usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the Hamilton Borough Council Chambers yesterday, at 31 o'clock. There were present: Messrs Primrose (chairman), Heaney, Hanmer, Clements, Browne, McPherson, Seddon, McGuirk, Anderson, Lung and Chepmell. Visit to Hospital. —In accordance with a resolution oassed at the last meeting, the Board met at the Hospital at 10.30 a.m., and were shown over the institution by Dr. Konny. Tho members were well satisfied with the working of the Hospital, and after having inspected the diningroom, now in course of erection, they repaired to the surgery, where Dr. Kenny explained the analysis of milk, which will be referred to further on. The members then proceeded to Hamilton to hold their meeting. Fitzpatriok Again.—Mr R. B. Fitzpatrick, who was lately discharged from the Hospital for insubordination, wrote asking that relief be granted him.—Mr Clements said he had granted temporary relief to the extent of 5s per week.—Considerable discussion ensued upon this and another lengthy epistle, consisting of seven sheets of foolscap, containing serious charges against Dr. Kenny, was not received, and in tho oninion of the Board the letter was mo-st disrespectful.—lt was resolved to continue relief to the amount of 5s per week, leaving the matter in the hands of Mr Clements.

Cambridge.—During the discussion upon the above, Mr Primrise said the Cambridge Borough contributed £19 10.-i per year, jnd was receiving £91 in charitable aid. He thought that they would have to he very careful in giving charitable aid.—Mr Clements pointed out that although Cambridge was drawing so much, it must he remembered that some people who were receiving charitable aid in Cambridge had come from outaide places. Raqlan CorrNTT.— Mr J. B. Somerset wrote, saying that every effort would be made by the Raglan County Council to pay their contribution by let September.—A cheque for £45 10s 5d was! forwarded.—The ampunt to bo paid is £49 9-> 7d. Secretary's Report.—The secretary's report showed that 25 persons were receiving charitable aid and that there wera 14 inmites in the Refuge, one paying for his maintenance. Finance: Bank credit balance, £1149 17s sd; subsidies due by Government, £019 Si 5d ; contributions due, £20(i 12s 7d ; subsidy due on same, £2GO 12s 7d ; Hospital fees receivable, about £100; endowments, £30 ; total, £2432 11s. Less accounts to be paid, £2079-1 Gd, leaving a credit balance of £2225 Is Gd.—The report was received and adopted.

Doctor's Report.—This report was also received and adopted. Mkat Supply.—Mr Cassidy's tender being the only one received for the supply of meat it was accepted. The prices were, for mutton and beef, 3Jd per lb, and fowls Is b'd each; lamb and pork a separate item.

Milk Supply.—When at the Hospital Dr. Kenny said that he had to complain of the inferior class of milk that was supplied to the Hospital. Milk formed a great item in their dietary scale and it was necessary that the milk should be pure. He said that the milk supplied was sometimes very watery in appearance an.l tasted so. The doctor then read a table of analyses that he had made of the milk supplied and the per centage of water ranged from 30 per cent, to 50 per cent. On some occasions he had received pure milk. He suggested that a standard be fixed of say a specific gravity of 1030, which would be a good sample. A resolution was passed that the matter be left in the hands of the secretary to see that the contract was carried out.

Building.—Mr Lmg moved that tender* be called for building the extension of the Hospital buildings, as proposed by Mr White—Seconded by Mr McGuirk and carried nem con. Nuusks Ckrtifioatks.— It was*resolved to ask Drg. Mackollar and Haines of Auckland to act asexaminors of nurses requiring certificates, and that nurses be allowed two guineas for expeusee. The usual relief was granted for the ensuing month.
