Thk Times dovotes a leading article to Sir George Grey's illness for the AgentGeneralship and asserts that ha has been approached on the subject by the Government, but that his are unknown. In conversation with Sir George Grey today a Star reporter arrived at tli6 conclusion that ho could not accept the office of AgentGeneral because it would altogether fetter and destroy his usefulness 111 striving to promote Imperial Federation, but on that very account he might accept oflice as bearing messages to the British Minister that New Zealand might be willing to enter into federal relations with Great Britain on a plan approved by the British Government and by this colony, which would show the lines on which Lord Salisbury was prepared to support Federation with any cilony that was pleased to join in allying itself still more closely with the British Government. It is reported that Mr Percival is practicably appointed Agent-General.
