A ruiiTHKR meeting of New Zealand journalists this morning regarding tho proposed institute, partly considered the draft constitution and relegated the final discussion to Saturday afternoon, when the officers of tho Council will also be olected. It is estimated there will at least be one hundred active members.

The body of Mr A. Ilundas, surveyor of l'alnierston North, who lias boen missing for three weeks, was found on the Oriental Bay beach at 1.3U p.m. this afternoon. The body was much decomposed, and nothing is known as to how he got into the water.

Ail inquest on Robert Burgess, who shot himself near .lohnsoiiville <m Saturday morning, disclosed the fact that he was of a melancholy disposition, and .me brother and two sisters had been inmates of the lunatic asylum. A paper which he took with him to read happened to contain Aitken C"0liell's suicide, and it is supposed the unfortunate young man was prompted by this to follow his example, as a gun, ready loaded, was in the roooni. A verdict was returned accordingly.

Applications at an average rate of L'O per day are being received by Mr Tregear, officer ill charge of the Government Bureau of Industries. Oil .Saturday 11 applications were made, whilst to-day 32 men, by totegratn or letter, applied for work. The majority of these men date their applications from Oamaru, Waimate, and their vicinities. The whole of them are bush-fullers, and are easily provided with work. Applications continue to reach the bureau from various parts of the colony on the part of persons who uro described as " handy men" who are averse to leaving the town. As there is no demand unfortunately for such, it is useless for them to apply to tho Government bureau.
