IE AWAMUT.

Band ok Hops.—'Tho usual monthly meeting of the Band of Hope was held in the Wosleyan Church last Friday ovening, the Rev. Mr McDonald presiding. The building was filled to over-flowing, and I strongly recommend the committee, if the attendance keeps increasing as it has been doing lately, to hold their meetings in the hall, if it could be secured at a low rental. Tho following programme was creditably performed, some of tho items bring especially good Opening hymn, prayer and chairman's remarks ; recitation, Kite Chalmers; sacred song, by the choir; recitation, Milly Teasdnlo; solo, Miss J. Millar; recitation, Miss Nellie Diueeu: song, .Mr Alex.. Millar; dialogue, Masters Mandeno (2), G. Hollowav, G. Millar, Long, Chalmers (2), Vanse and North ; hymn, by live little girls—Misses Winnie Reen, Mandeno, Teasdilo, Vanse and Lane; address, by the Rev. W. Gittos ; recitation, Miss Ada Patterson ; solo, Miss Winnie Rees ; dialogue ; Misses llees and Vanse ; solo, Miss Carley: sacred song, by tho choir; recitation, Master H. Chalmers. The closing remarks by the Chairman, followed by the benediction, brought a pleasant evening to a close.

Death.—l am very sorry to have to chronicle the death of the infant daughter of Mr William Taylor, of Green Hill. The immense crowd of people, both townsmen and country settlers, who atteuded the funeral showed, if anything was needed to .show it, the sympathy that is felt all round the district for the beroaved parents. The Rev. McDonald conducted the service.

Church Sbrvice.—On Sunday last we wero again visited by the Dioscesan Missionary, the Rev. John Haselden. Ho preached in St John's Church in tho evening, but the attendance was not quite as large as usual, owing to tho rough weather. During tho rorvice, ho presented to Mr James Mmdotio his license from the Bishop as a lay reader.
