THAMES-TE AROHA RAILWAY.
EXTENSION TO PAEROA. A rußMc meeting was held at Paeroa on Saturday evening last re the extension of the Thames Valley railway frnin Te Aroha to Paeroa, and the Public Hull was densely packed on that occasion. Mr J. Phillips, J.P., county chairman, presided, and Messrs Mitchell and Edwards addressed the meeting, which was absolutely unanimous. It need not bo said that the proposed extension would be a wonderful assistance to Waikato, as it would open up a market for Waikato produce, which would be of great dimensions. Waikato produce, coal, etc, at present go to Auckland, and from thence are distributed back again to the Paeroa district, which is only separated by a neck of land about twelve miles lonp from Te Aroha and Waikato. The river between Paeioa aDd Te Aroha is rapidly shallowing and the road is absolutely of no uso; it is expensive, and really exists for the sole convenience of the coach. The meeting decidod to petition the Minister for Public Works to expend the ear-marked vote of £12,000 on this extension, and it was agreed to ask the local bodies in the Piako and Thames Counties to co-operate. A committee, consisting of Messrs J. Phillips, J.P., 0. F, Mitchell, Edwin Edwards, Thos. Shaw, Chas. Rhodes and J. M. Robson, was formed, and a vote of thanks to the chair closed the proceedings.
