Horse Stealing.—Soma six months ago Mr Short lost from his farm, near Te Awamutu, three horses, one being a valuable Ingomar colt. Search was made through the district but to no purpose, and all hopes of obtaining any clue to their whereabouts had been long since abandoned. On Monday last however, while Mr Short was engaged in threshing for Mrs Corboy, one of the men at the machine identified a mare running in her paddock to bo one of the missing animals. Upon enquiry it was ascertained that this mare had been, a few weeks previously, sold to Mrs Corbny by a native named Koreka, who was then in her employ. No time was lost in conveying this information to the police who immediately arrested the native and took him to the Te Awamutu lock-up where he now remains awaiting his trial. It is understood that other natives concerned in the affair are to be arrested without delay. Now that Mr Short has lecovered one of his ''family" ho should have little dilliculty in tracing oat the others. Sale—The sale of Mr McXaught's furniture held here on Saturday last was fairly successful. A large number of settlers from the surrounding districts attended, and generally the people—especially the ladies—were not afraid to bid. Mr W. J. Hunter was the auctioneer.
