DEPUTATIONS.

to tub Enrroit. Silt,—The ratepayers in tho Newcastle riding, and those gentlemen who took sncli an active part in condemning the action of tho Wnipa County Council over the expenditure m the aforesaid riding, since the conference of their delegates with tlio Council last week are in possession of information it would have been well for thoiu to have had before. It would have savod them taking up such a lamentably false position before the Council. Th"y learnt, seemingly for the first time, that their riding was nearly £300 overdrawn. They further made a discovery that all tho rates collected in the town of Ngaruawahia had been absorbed in keeping the punt service going. One of tho deputation had tu come down from a very elovatej position lie assumed wlieu claiming extra consideration owiug to a considerable increase in revenue that would accrue from a recent sale of land, amounting tu some £200. He was surprised, no doubt, to learn that, on the preseut rate levied, that would amount tu a sum of about tun shillings. This little storm in a teapot points a moral —first be sure of your premises', and in chousing a deputation be satisfied they know something of the errand they aro sent upou.— Vuurs, &c., R.VI'KI'AVKi;, Kirikiriroa, April L'Otli.
