CHINEMURI.
On in km i:ri County Coi:nci.'..—A special mcet'ug of the Ohinemuri County Coun oil (Works Committee) was held at the Couucil Chambers, Paeroa, on Saturday last. Present : Crs. Phillips (chairmau), Nash, Robson and Edwards. A number of small contracts were let, including work on the Puke road, Paeroa bridge square, acd other small works. The matter of the office of Forest Ranger came up, and it was agreed, on the motion of Crs. Edwards aud Phillips, to recommend that the office be let at a commission ou the trees sold.
The Paeboa Leases.—A meeting of the Paeroa leaseholders was held in the Tribune office on Monday evening last, and adjourned, owing to the absence of Mr Robsou, one of the chief movers in the matter, until Thursday. On Thursday the meeting, which was a very full one, was held in the Paeroa Public Hall, Mr Jno. Phillips, junr., presiding. It appeared, during thr; course of the proceedings, that certaiu arrangements had been made by Messrs Jaclssou and Rusfcll, the lessees of the township, tu have the restrictions removed with a view to the purchase of the freehold. The meeting decided that it was unwise and objec tionable to assist iu this matter uutil the lessees arranged with the present occupiers and sub lessees for a uniform scale of prices and terms ou which they (the present occupiers) could iu their turn get the freeholds of their lots. ] OuiNKMiiKi Jock ey—the Oliine muri Jockey Club held its final " clearing up meeting" at the Paeroa Hotel ou Saturday evening last. The Secretary read the balance-sheet, showing a credit balance of £3 8s 3d on the St. Patrick's Day races, and a general balance in baud of £29 3s 9d. It was reported that the owner of Grace Darling had not paid his nomination fees, aud the Secretary was instructed to sue and take steps to have the usual defaulting notioe given. Mining.—ln mining matters there is a new briskness apparent. The Crown starts again next week, and Mr Shepherd is making arrangements to pass over a large number of Karangahake mines to a powerful syndicate. The price will be over £50,000. The owners of the Orand Junction, a first-class property at Karan gahake, are making arrangements to float their claim in Aiickhin'i.
