(BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, Last Night. The Mariposa, with the English mails, left 'Frisco for Auckland on the 3rd inst, one day late. The Monowai arrived at 'Frisco from Auckland mi the 17th inst,, one day late. The Hon. G. McLean denies that any amalgamation of the Union Company with the Australian Companies is contemplated. The Premier has replied to a letter of the Kketahuna Knights of Labour, which was recently forwarded to him, enclosing a s:ries of resolutions in favour of tho abolition of Customs duties on tho necessaries of life, and the substitution of a tax on land v ilups for the Propercy Tax. In reply, Air Balhnco tells the Knights of Labour that he agrees to a largo extent with their resolutions, and that it is only a question of a little time when they will, no doubt, bo reduced to practice. He expressed a hope that in tho coming session Parliament will proceed to some distance at any rate in giving effect to the spirit of the resolutions.
