Elliott, Under-Secretary of Lands and Mines, ia to take the Under-Secret-iryship of Mines 'jnly. Thirty-three officers in the. Lands Department throughout the colony are to bo retrenched and twelve others transferred. The saving in the Land and Survey Departments will be £li,ooo per annum. The compensation to be paid m the Land, Stock and Survey Departments will amount to £4,500. Tho stock districts are to be enlarged, and twelve officers of the Crown Lands and Survey Department are to be transferied, including the following five chief inspectors, viz., Mr Humphreys, Auckland ; Mr Marchant, "Wellington; Mr Baker, Christchurch ; Mi Mueller, Westport ; and Mr Spencer, InvercargiU. Their destinations are not yet decided. The services of five Native Land Court judges are also to be dispensed with.
