HUNTLY COAL MINES.

THE NEW DTP FLOODED. (own correspondent.) Huntly, Yesterday. The new dip at Messrs Ralph Bros. Huntly coal mine will be remembered for some time as the scene of the fatal accident at Christinas time, by which the lives of five men were lost, viz., Treacey, Smith, Harris, Casby, and S. Hyndman, the latter of whom, after lingering for three months, succumbed to his injuries, received in rescuing the entombed men, at the Waikato Hospital yesterday. The debris caused by tho accident having been cleared away, work was again resumed in the dip, and early in February wal was being taken out. Work was carried on uninterruptedly until the beginning of this week, when it was ascertained that water was rapidly coming into the workings. Efforts were made to scop the inflow, but without success, and at 10 o'clock on Monday night the dip had to be abandoned. All the pvmping gear, which was down the dip, was safely removed. It is thought that the water is coming in from tho Hakanoa Lake, and no effort will be made to pump out the working, but a new dip will be put in from somewhere near tho garden of the Huntly Hotel, under which an extensive seam of splendid coal is known to exist. Messrs Ralph Bros, have been extremely unfortunate in the working of this dip, and it is hoped they will be more successful in their new venture.
