Ari'i.i-; Picnic.—Some months ago lie T. W. Hicks, the chairman of the School Committee, promised the children that if tliey attended school regularly until the fruit was ripe, he would give them an apple picnic. We presume (.he children did so, for 011 Friday Mr Hicks kept his word, and gave the youngsters such a " blow out" of fruit as they are not likely to forget. A special half-holiday was granted fur (lie occasion, and Mr K. Reynolds kindly sent a waugon to convey the children to Mr Hicks' place. There was a large crowd, for in addition to the children there were their parents and numerous friends. However, Mr and Mrs liicks made all welcome, aud a most thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was spent. It was amusiug to see the youugsters endeavouring to stow away big apples when all their pockets wore full. Those of mature years tried Mr Hicks' cider, and pronounced it Al. Hearty cheers were given for Mr and Mrs liicks for their kindness.
