LATEST WELLINGTON NEWS.
(BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASS JCIATION.) Wellington, Last Night, The Government have decided to ask Admiral Lord Chas. Scott, who is at present in Auckland with the Australian squadron, to instruct a captain and two torpedo experts belonging to the men-of-war there, to hold an enquiry into the circumstances connected with the gun cotton explosion, at Shelly Bay, last week. Tho Minister of Mines, left for Nelson and the West Coast, this evening. He will visit all the coal and gold fields in the Smith Island, before he returns. A banquet given to Mr McGmre, the newly elected member for Egmoiit, last night, at Stratford, was a great success The Premier, and Messrs Hutchison and Sooth, M.H.R.s. were present. Mr Ballance was enthusiastically received, and the hall was crowded, many being unable to obtain seats.
