CRIMINAL SITTINGS,

[dy telegraph.—own correspondent]. Auckland, Last Night. At the Supremo Court this afternoon the case against Richard Mitchell for rape at Cambridge was called. The prisoner pleaded not guilty and expressed ■«__ wish for the. case not to be heard till pnday next, to allow witnesses for the defence to anive. Tho request was granted. f The prisoner stated that he had no counsel to represent him, but he was in hopes ef getting some one. Mr Justice Connolly stated thai; he would pay counsel's fen himself, if found necessary. William George for breaking and entering was admitted to probation. Patrick Ben lord and Patrick Carroll for assault got throe yeais' imprisonment.
