Auckland, Last Night. There wore thirty-nine candidates at the Rawlins's Scholarship Examination, which commenced this morning.
John Lundon, formerly captain of the Onebnnga Rities, was charged at the Police Court to-day under the Defence Act with failing to deliver up certain arms and accoutrement?, the property of the Government. Tho evidence showed that he had given them to .Major Lundon, his superior ollicer, and the case was dismissed.
This was the last day upon which the IVoperty-tax could be paid, exclusivo of lines, and between £8000 and £9000 passed through the Fost-onice during the day.
Messrs Garrett's properties'were offered by auction to-day, but were all passed, the bids not being considered sufficient.
