F\ military circles it is rumoured that Hear-Admiral Scott would bo not unwilling to remove the headquarters of the Australian siruudron from Sydney to New Zealand, and further, that this desire is not altogether unconnected v.ith the recent dispute as to precedence of the Admiral of the fleet. Piiyiie, who created a. sensation, by attempting to commit suicide on the stage of the Theatre Royal m\ Thursday night, belonged to lOI.s. Orlando. He is in a critical state. Unrequited affection is believed to have been the cause of the man attempting to take his own life. The Intercolonial Eight-oared Race yesterday was won by the Victorian orew. Queensland was second, and New South Wales third. The Queensland crew had tho race well in hand when, unfortunately, they broke an oar when within 300 yards of the winning post, which resulted in throwing them back. Tho New South AVolce crew were nowhere. Brisbane, November 29. Mr T. Archer, Agent-General for tho colony, has resigned, and Sir J. b. Garriok, who formerly hold the position, has been appointed in his stead. An epidemic of scarlatina has broken out in the city, and tho disease, which is of a very dangerous type, is spreading rapidly.
