Maoui KLKfU'iON'.—As the election for the Western Maori district will open the political ball it holds a somewhat prominent place, especially amongst the Maoris. The nominations come olf on Monday and there is it, corresponding degree of excitement and diplomacy observable as the happy day approaches. There are several candidates t.-lked of, and tliero is likely to be a keen contest. Some think Henare Kailiau or Major Te Wheoro would have a good show if either came out, while others deny that either the former or the latter would get in. Mr W. H. Grace's Garden.—Mr W. H. Grace's garden, and the orchard surrounding his house are quite a living poem of beauty. The trees in it are in full bloorn, and as the grounds are laid out with much taste, and a skilful gardener is always employed to keep the trees and shrubs in order (many of the latter being rare and boautiful), the garden and orchard area site worth seeing. Tho site of the garden being one of of the most commanding here, it attracts general attention.
