Tin: Puhipuhi prospectors are thoroughly satisfied with the recent crushing, and iuteud registering the company this week, and erecting machinery immediately. The Government have been requested to make a grant of £000 for a road to get the machinery to the reefs, CHKISTCHURCH, Last Night. At a meeting of the Canterbury Trades and Labour Council, it was agreed that the Council should not meet in conference or countenance electoral affairs where there are Associations which do not make Trade Jnionsan essential plauk iu their platform ; and that the Council use every endeavour to make the proposed demonstration day (October 28th) a great success. With regard to the request of the Knights of Laliour that concerted action be taken in the election of members of Parliament, the committee arc agreed that general politics are outside the province of the Council. INVERCARGILL, Last Night. At the annual meeting of the Southland Teachers' Institute it was decided to take steps to form a Union, and the Secretary was instructed to write to the other Institutes, suggesting that the question of establishing a Union for the whole colony should be discussed at the annual meeting of the New Zealaud Teachers' Council.
